Decking up for R’s Annaprashan

A lot of you had appreciated my current profile picture on Facebook, and had asked me about my lip colour and my saree. So I came up with the idea of sharing all the details on a common platform here.
So today’s post will be all about how I decked up at R’s annaprashan. When R’s mum invited me for the ceremony, I was thrilled beyond words, since I would be seeing Baby R for the first time. Now “annaprashan” is an infant’s first rice feeding ceremony, where a toddler is introduced to solids for the first time. The maternal uncle treats the baby to a lot of delicacies on this day. It involves a variety of rituals, most of it being similar to that of a wedding (like applying turmeric paste in the morning followed by a bath, and dressing up the infant in ethnic wear). In fact, annaprashan is way beyond just feeding a toddler with rice and payesh (a sweet dish made of rice and milk). It involves a family get-together, where relatives gather to celebrate and bless the newborn with a lot of love, and shower the little one with gifts.
I chose a Bottle Green Assam Silk for the evening, and decided to ditch the traditional blouse that came with it. Instead, I opted for a boat neck Black Raw Silk blouse by Parama that had palash flowers appliqued over the right side at the back. And I did manage to turn a few heads, all thanx to her lovely creation!

When it comes to jewellery, I am an absolute minimalist. On a regular day, you would find me sans ear-rings or any sort of jewellery. I ended up wearing ear cuffs studded with flower shaped stones. I think it gives a very feminine feel to the look. And my mangalsutra around my neck. That is it!

For my makeup, my base was prepped with the Mac Prep + Prime Skin Base Visage. This was followed by Mac Matchmaster Foundation SPF 15 and finally Mac Select Sheer Pressed Powder. When it comes to my base makeup, I swear by products from Mac. Personally, I feel that if you invest in quality makeup base products that are right for your skintone, half the battle is already conquered! After the base, I lined my eyes with Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in the shade Perversion. It is a creamy eye pencil in matte black that glides on really well, and sets immediately. Often I end up skipping my mascara or defining my brows, but trust me, these two are very important staples of makeup. On my lips, I have Colourpop’s Lippie Stix in the shade Creature. Their matte formula is to die for! And Creature is quite different from the regular reds and maroons. It is a a deep, blackened burgundy red. Lastly, a black bindi to complete the entire look.
We had a lot of fun catching up with the gorgeous hosts for the evening, my friend Sharmi and her husband. Ever since they moved to a different city, we missed on our our regular dose of weekend adda. On this note, I will end the post for the day here. And let the photographs do the rest of the talking!
