Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm – Shameless | Sultry | Standout | Fiery Flamboyante | Review | Swatches | Lipstick for Dusky Skin/Brown Skin

Describing Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm is pretty easy!

Think of your favourite lipstick in a balm like formula, and voila, you have the Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm.

I was first introduced to this product sometime back in 2014. Nykaa had just started its venture and I used to be a regular shopper from Flipkart. (Yes, Flipkart was popular for cosmetics back then!) One day, I got hold of a bold, vampy shade called Shameless from their collection. I had very hesitatingly applied it on my lips. And soon after, I became hooked on to their formula. In a span of a few more months, I added Sultry (more of a daily wear dusky pink shade) and Standout (a gorgeous red) to my collection. And while I was vacationing in Thailand, I decided to add the shade Fiery Flamboyante (another flattering maroon) to my collection. This was how I ended up building my collection of the Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm over the years.

Now let us get into the details and swatches, shall we?

Revlon describes their ColorBurst Matte Balm as :

Our vibrant, matte lip crayons impart the lightweight color you want—with a comfortable dose of moisture. Velvety Matte Look. Moisture Rich Balm.
A Matte finish that’s beyond plush. Balm that’s beyond comforting. Our Triple Butter Complex of Shea, Coconut and Mango butters nourishes lips. In 10 collectible, craveable colors.

Packaging : The Revlon ColorBurst Matte Lip Balm comes in a twist-up, crayon-like packaging. Twist up, hence no more hassle of sharpening and most importantly, no wastage! Hence lasts forever. (Nykaa, Faces – Are you even listening?) It resembles a chubby stick where the body clearly spells out the colour of the product. Hence, it becomes easy to find it in your stash, specially if you are in a hurry. It has a sticker on the bottom with the name of its color and shade number printed on it. Since it is in the form of a pencil, it provides great precision during application.

Formula : This is one of the creamiest, lightest and comfortable formulas that I have ever tried on my lips. While it does not go completely matte on my lips, I am pretty happy with the fact that it does not dry out my lips either! The crayon glides on smoothly over the lips, and it has a tingling peppermint fragrance to it, which is not at all over-powering. The peppermint smell fades off in a few minutes. It does transfer and needs touch-ups after you have had oily meals. Lasts for around 4 to 5 hours at a stretch.

Pigmentation : The pigmentation is worth mentioning, and one swipe is all it takes to give you an opaque finish. However, you may consider building up the colour with a lighter hand.

The Revlon ColorBurst Matte Lip Balm comes in a variety of shades for you to pick from. However, I have four of them in my collection, which really flatter my dusky skin tone. For your reference, I am MAC NC45.

Sultry (Shade Number 225) : Sultry is an everyday wear kind of a shade. It appears as a dusky pink shade for my skintone and I wear it to work quite often. Infact, I have been carrying this in my handbag these days. It just comes so handy, when you need to touch up your lips before a meeting or a presentation. It looks very natural, that “barely there” on my lips.

Standout (Shade Number 250): It is a deep cranberry red, and is one of the most popular shades from this range (after Shameless). This red will flatter every skin tone, and the shade truly lives upto its name. One swipe on your lips, and you will be “standing-out” in the crowd! On days when I am too confused about which “red”to pick, Standout always comes to my rescue.

Fiery Flamboyante (Shade Number 270) : I picked this up from Watsons, Phuket on my trip to Thailand. It is a beautiful wine/maroon shade. Out of all the shades that I own, this one’s colour pay off was the poorest. It left behind a sheen after application. However, I still love it! This shade is not available in India as of now.

Shameless (Shade Number 215): It is a gorgeous deep purple colour and is supposed to be a close dupe of Mac Heroine. It is certainly not a colour for the faint hearted, but I loved it the moment I tried it. It instantly uplifts your bare face, and looks very bold (only if you can pull it off confidently). I have to admit that Shameless is my favourite of the lot!

Some of the other shades from this range are : Complex, Showy, Mischievous, Audacious, Unapologetic (among others). Depends on the country you reside in.

Thumbs Up For :

  • Comfortable texture
  • Non sharpening leading to less wastage
  • Easy Application (pencil form)
  • Great Pigmentation
  • Travel friendly/Packaging is on point!

Thumbs Down For :

  • Being pricey (Shelling out Rs.1095/- for a drugstore brand is ridiculous!)
  • Discontinuation of some of the popular shades (like Shameless)
  • Needs touch-up (Staying power is less)

Price : Rs.1095/- for 2.7 grams of product. I had bought them when they were priced at Rs.800/- each (which is quite expensive for a drugstore brand).

Tip : (Look out for discounts during Myntra’s Beauty Edit Sale).

Find them on Nykaa, Myntra (Though their popular shades get sold out quickly)

Would I repurchase?

Yes why not. Provided it comes with a good discount.
