On a Food Trail : Chapter Three – Delhi/Dilli | Travel with TicTalkToe | Chalo Lets Go | Delhi Diaries | Dilwalon ka Shahar

“Yayyy she is here!” I leaped out of joy as soon as I saw Mini crossing the Railway Bridge. She had come all the way to Ghaziabad Station for receiving us. We would be putting up at her place in Noida for our one day Delhi visit. I soon got into the her car, and she drove us straight to her multi-storied apartment. The smog and the pollution reminded “Welcome to Greater Noida”.

For dinner, I got to taste Mini’s “haath ki Tehri” after what felt like ages! Tehri is a typical north India pulao made of vegetables and tempered with garlic and topped with some extra ghee for the taste! Back to my hostel days, I would never miss Tehri for lunch. Soon after dinner we started our adda session, that rolled over to my exclusive gossip session with Mini.

Next morning, I gathered some courage and draped a saree for the day out. Now this was something I had never done before, and only Almighty knows what sort of courage I had gathered to try this out. Mini also followed the suit, and there we were, roaming around the streets of Old Delhi, effortlessly in our sarees.

Our first stop was Karim’s for their Biryani and Mutton Burrah, followed by Shahi Tukda from a lesser known shop named “Cool Point”in Chandni Chowk. Next, we marched our way to Red Fort, where we spent a good time lazying around the plush green lawns and clicking in pictures, flaunting our sarees.

In fact, I was more amazed by the shops at the Red Fort’s entrance, which sold magnets, jewellery, bags, show pieces and what not at a very reasonable price. We even went ahead and shopped from there.

Back in the evening, we did halt at the Logix City Centre where I met my college friends Ankit and Anumeha, along with re-living a bucket full of college life memories, after a decade. They even got me a gift for my birthday tomorrow! Imagine, who treats you with gifts on the other side of 30’s?

We parted ways, only to find my birthday cake waiting for me at home, 12o’clock in the midnight. The cake cutting session and wishes ended, only with time for us to catch up some sleep. We had an early morning train that day, and had to leave by 05:30 a.m. Punjab was the last destination on our list, and The Golden Temple was beckoning!
