When Nykaa announced on Instagram that they would be launching their in-house variant of Nykaa Matte To Last Liquid Lipstick, like everybody else, I too had set my eyes on a few shades. But then, since I had just bought a Mac Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour few weeks back, which literally burnt a hole in my pocket, I decided to wait for another few weeks. And guess what? I won this particular shade called “Madras Kaapi” (Shade No. 05) from their 100K Giveaway Contest on Instagram, and that was when I thanked my lucky stars for having waited for one. Those who follow my stories on Instagram know very well that I had put this particular shade “Madras Kaapi” on my wish list for two reasons, one because I am a little biased towards Chennai, and two because of my love for the beverage! Add to it the fact that, I had not bought a nude shade for long!

Now that you have already subscribed, let’s move on……….My association with Nykaa dates back to 2013, when I had just started shopping cosmetics online. A fresh law graduate, with a highly demanding job and working at odd hours left me with no other option than to shop online. That was when I had discovered the gem called Nykaa. Over the years I have seen this brand evolve and grow from an online cosmetics store to a brand. I was so happy when Nykaa launched its in-house range of cosmetics and skincare products.
Nykaa has recently come up with 10 shades in their Nykaa Matte To Last! Liquid Lipstick range. These shades are all named after some of the famous cities in India. But the names were very interesting with a little twist in it. Well, reminds me of how NYX had named their Soft Matte Lip Creams after some of the famous cities of the world. You can find all the shades HERE
How NYKAA describes Madras Kaapi
For the go-getters of this world, who don’t take no for an answer! She is the perfect melange of beauty and brains, your future is written in ‘golden letters’. This fabulous deep brown shade is sure to leave your mark wherever you go. Made just for your taste, strong and absolutely exquisite.
Packaging : The Packaging looks very classy and compact. The Liquid Lipstick comes packed in a cardboard box, with a black and white print of the city that it represents. The box carries the ingredients, manufacturing details, shelf life, and the shade of the liquid lipstick is depicted on it. However, I have a tiny grievance here. The shade depicted on the box for “Madras Kaapi” is darker that what it actually is! I was a little misguided when I first applied “Madras Kaapi” on my lips. It washed me out, and looked lighter than what it looked on the box. However, this can easily be tackled if you apply a pink/brown lip-liner beneath.
The main product comes in a tiny transparent block, with a black cap. Also you can easily locate the shade if you own more than one shades in this range. The applicator/wand is tear-dropped, pointed and short, which really helps in precise application of the product.
Formula : The formula is light and glided evenly over on my lips, without any patches. It settled down to a matte formula within a few minutes. It did not feel uncomfortable on my lips at all. Honestly, I loved the formula, and it surpassed even some of the luxurious and expensive liquid lipsticks that I have tried. It was very well pigmented, one swipe and I got a beautiful colour over my lips. It is also cent percent transfer proof and smudge proof, as opposed to what many Youtubers have reviewed. It survived for around 3 to 4 hours, and I did have meals in between. However, I am anticipating that if one has heavy oily meals, it might start fading sooner.
Bonus : This is a nearly perfect dupe of the famous Huda Beauty Liquid Matte in the shade “Trendsetter”, which retails for Rs.1600/- on Nykaa. Don’t believe me? See the swatches for yourself. Such an affordable dupe “Madras Kaapi” is!
Price & Quantity: Nykaa Matte To Last Liquid Lipstick retails for Rs.550/- for 4.5 ml of the product. They are available on Nykaa online and across all their stores in India. This reminds me, Kolkata is eagerly waiting for its first Nykaa store. Team Nykaa, I hope you are listening!
Thumbs Up for
- Comfortable Formula (This is the best of all, finding a formula that feels so comfortable on your lips!)
- Precise Applicator (Makes life easier for girls like me in hurry!)
- Reasonable Pricing (Pockets are also happy)
- Range of Shades (I am eyeing Mishti and Guwa-hottie already!)
- Cruelty Free and Paraben Free (Big thumbs up for this)
Thumbs Down for
- The shade did wash me out (I am NC 45), however, it will look very pretty on other skin tones.
- It is not very long lasting, and is not known to survive heavy meals
- Few of the shades, that I have known, are streaky
I hope you found this review to be interesting. Do let me know if you would like me to review something for you. Till then, sit back and sip on a cuppa of “Madras Kaapi”!
Disclaimer: The fact that I won this in a Giveaway has not affected my reviews here. My opinion is honest and unbiased.
