Eight Binge Buys of my Life | Hit or Miss | TicTalkToe

Ever bought something on an impulse? Only to regret later! Or may be it was a huge hit, and you couldn’t stop patting your back. The same did happen to me a couple of times…and I decided to list it down here. May be my experience with these product could help you save a few bucks. Or it could have been an investment you wouldn’t regret!

binge : an unrestrained and often excessive indulgence

ONE Saree Silhouette by Tia Bhuva: Rs.3000/- for a petticoat would obviously seem exorbitant to many. However, if you happen to ever try one, you’ll do away with all your cotton petticoats for sure. I got my first Saree Silhouette in October’2018 and I’ve never looked back since then. Sarees have now become an integral part of my vacations. The material is super soft, comfortable and it leaves no marks on your waist. It gives a great figure hugging shape when you drape a saree, and guess what? You can run, skip, hop or even sit cross legged with the saree not coming out of its place! How cool is that? I even use it as a liner beneath my sheer maxi dresses or wear the black one as a skirt! Need more reasons? Just try one for yourself. They are available in a host of colours, but I had picked up Nude and Black, the only two colours that a woman ever needs in her wardrobe. SUPER HIT in my case.

Tip: They host regular Sales, so try picking up one when they are on SALE. The price could come down to as low as Rs.2300/-. Shipping to India is costly, but shipping within Canada and USA is free. I had asked a friend in USA to get it for me, while I had the product shipped to her address.

TWO Sigma Essential Kit – Mrs. Bunny (Brush Kit): I got this in 2014 and it has been 6 years since then, yet this feels as good as new. I wanted to splurge on a good makeup brush kit, that had adequate number of brushes both for my eyes and face, and thankfully chanced upon it. The kit included 12 makeup brushes that were synthetic and vegan friendly. I have been washing then again and again but have never experienced any bristle loss from the brushes. They have shiny sky blue handles and look very elegant. It also comes with a cup holder, which alone costs around $29. The Mrs. Bunny Kit has now been discontinued and is no longer available on their website, but its counterpart Mr. Bunny Essential Kit in Black is still available for $179.  If you would want me to do a detailed post on my makeup brushes, I’ll be very happy to keep your request. The Brush Set is great for beginners, and I am not at all disappointed. In fact, I’ve never ever felt the need to add any other makeup brush in my collection after I have purchased this. However, given that 6 years have passed since then, you can easily get brushes of a similar quality in India. So in case you are not a brand buff, you can give their dupes a try. MISS in my case.

Tip: Try and buy these sets by using an affiliate code, you could get over 40% discount on the same. Alternatively, you can also wait for their Black Friday Sale or Christmas Sale and get them at great discounts. Yes, they do ship internationally.

THREE Sigma Spa Brush Cleaning Glove: While I was buying the Essential Brush Kit from Sigma, their cleaning gloves attracted me a lot and I decided to give it a try! But again, 6 years back brush cleaning gloves were unheard of, and hence I paid a hefty amount for it ($39). But these days, you get so many cheaper ones at a fraction of a price. No point indulging in this! MISS in my case.

FOUR Tangle Teezer Compact Styler: With its patented technology that detangles your hair without breaking them, this product was surely a crowd puller. The brush is travel-friendly, and tames stray strands and detangles wet or dry hair with its two-tiered regular-flex teeth, Again, the advertisement and tall claims were to fall for, but I wouldn’t reach out to this as often as I think I should have. $20 for a brush that resolves tangles in your hair is a sure MISS in my case. A good one to throw again in your handbag, but then again, why spend so much on a comb/brush? Available on Nykaa for Rs.1400. Beware of dupes/fake products on Flipkart/Amazon claiming to be Tangle Teezer.

FIVE Beauty Blender: I am talking about the Beauty Blender Original (there are tons of dupes who call themselves Beauty Blender). It is an edgeless, non-disposable, high-definition cosmetic sponge applicator. This makeup sponge has a unique shape and is made of an exclusive material available only with beautyblender® that ensures impeccable, streak-free application with minimum product waste. While the dupes perform great, the Original Beauty Blender is something I would re-purchase for blending in my makeup. HIT in my case. And remember, every sponge is NOT a beauty blender!

Available at Sephora’s website for Rs.2000/- in India.

SIX Clarisonic Mia 2: This is also an expensive tool that I had purchased on Black Friday Sale from Sephora, USA. $99 for a sonic cleansing brush is hell expensive, but I decided to give this a shot, considering that it is an investment for my skin. HIT in my case, because this is a one time investment and has been working well for the last 4 years! It literally needs no further investment except for the brush heads that need to be changed every three months (again I buy that when on SALE). And once the device is charged, it lasts me for almost 6 months. It is sad that they have discontinued this particular model, but have upgraded their stock to newer versions.

SEVEN Makeup Eraser: $20 for a towel that erases all traces of makeup? HIT in my case, since I have almost stopped using cotton pads, makeup removers, wet wipes and cleansing balms to clean my face. All I need is warm water and this towel. An investment in a long run for sure. Available in India at Sephora for Rs.1499/-

Tip: Sephora has a cheaper version of the same, but the size of the towel is way smaller! However, it still does the same job.

EIGHT SAFE CUP MENSTRUAL CUP: Well, why invest in Rs.899/- when its counterparts can be as cheap as Rs.250-300/-. This is something which I am often asked. I have a few points here. I had started my journey with menstrual cups with something that was roughly priced at Rs.399/-. It worked well but the stem caused me discomfort. Also I have learnt that coloured menstrual cups contain dyes that are not good for our skin in a long run (yet to verify the veracity of the statement). Safecup was the only brand that promised me a refund or an exchange in case the cup did not suit my requirements. Also, it was transparent (without any colours) and was US FDA compliant. Hence I went ahead with it and have not regretted since then. Their customer support also derserves a special mention. HIT in my case.

Tip: You can use the code TALK10 for an additional 10% discount if you buy from their website.
