Mac Cosmetics | Mac Retro Matte Liquid Lipstick | Oh Lady | Carnivorous | Review, Swatch | Dusky Skin
Hey everyone!
If you’ve read my review about one of Mac’s best selling shades in their Retro Matte Liquid Lipstick’s range, Dance With Me you must be aware that Mac has totally impressed me with their range of Retro Matte Liquid Lipsticks. When my friend Sahana picked up two more of these from their range, I decided to review it for the swatches. And guess what? I even ended up buying one of them for myself. So let’s begin with the review…
Mac describes this range on their website as as
a lip colour that provides a splash of colour in a liquid-suede finish that lingers.
I totally agree with how they have described this product. If you believe in love at first swipe, this is the perfect one!
Mac describes Oh Lady as Deep Wine, and I guess their description is totally accurate.
This is one of the most gorgeous berry shades in my stash! The colour is something I have never picked up before, and one swipe guarantees full opacity. It is very pigmented and does not need layering at all!
Carnivorous is described as Blackened Red by MAC, but it looks a little brown on my dusky skin. It is also a gorgeous bold shade, and is definitely not for the faint-hearted!
Packaging
The product comes in the regular black cardboard packaging, which has the shade’s name, manufacturing details and ingredients listed on it. The packaging is a hybrid of MAC lipsticks and liquid lip colors. The cap is similar to MAC Lipsticks, but the lower part is transparent. It makes it all the more convenient to locate the shades when you are in a hurry! The bottle is also quite sturdy and the cap screws tight. It is easy to carry around. It comes in a glass tube with a flat sponge applicator with pocket holes in them (which helps in picking up the product). The applicator again makes the application easy and precise results can be achieved with it. It takes around a minute or two to dry off and settle into a complete matte on my lips. The applicator tapers towards the tip and is very handy for drawing precise lines.
Texture/Formula
The formula is very comfortable, and it lasts me the entire day. I wear it for around 8 hours, which is freaking awesome! Just that oily meals break their formula, yet this lasts quite for a while and leaves a beautiful tint. It is highly pigmented and applies evenly without any patches or streaks. It dries thereafter to a matte finish and settles comfortably on your lips. It also stains up quickly, so if you need to make any corrections while applying it, you need to act fast.
I pair Oh Lady with coloured liners on my eyes, and trust me when I say, heads turn and women come up to me asking me about this shade.
The formula, colour, applicator, packaging, pigmentation, are more than sufficient reasons for you to splurge on this product. Here is what MAC Carnivorous looks like on me.
Here are the Hand Swatches
Thumbs up for
- Pigmentation – One swipe and you are done
- Formula – Extremely smooth texture
- Packaging – Very easy to locate
- The applicator is very handy
- The shade is universally flattering (It looks great on my NC 45 tone)
- The staying power is incredible – tried and tested!
Thumbs down for
- Being expensive (wish it was a little more affordable)
- It does dry out your lips like all other matte lip glosses, so a bit of lip exfoliation is recomended
- It stains very badly, so one needs to be very careful while applying
