Trip to Amritsar | Delhi | Travel With TicTalkToe – PART TWO

A friend of mine exclaimed, “isn’t one and a half day too much for Amritsar? You’ve already covered Golden Temple, Wagah Border and Jalianwala Bagh. What more is there to see?”

I literally laughed at his face! Amritsar is like a hidden treasure. Forget one and a half days, even one and a half months wouldn’t be enough to explore the city.
Welcome to my Second Part of the vacation diaries, where we started with Delhi, spent a good week at Himachal Pradesh, before finally returning to Amritsar. If you would like to go through the first part, please click HERE
And if you have been following me for sometime, you must be knowing that I did visit Amritsar in 2018 as well. Please find the link to the post HERE
So let’s begin the last chapter of our vacation. Amritsar…Wahe Guru!
We started our day at 9 a.m. with a guided tour walk organised by the Punjab Tourism. You may contact the guide at 9501764400 (Madam R. Kaur). I am sharing her number with her permission with my Blog readers. It was a two hour walk and costed us Rs.25/- per head only. Yes, you read that right! Twenty Five! For foreign tourists, the charge is Rs.75/-. The walk was very interesting, and enlightened us about the history of Amritsar. I personally feel that it is very important for a person to know the history of a place in order to savour its culture. This walk took us through the lanes of Amritsar and gave us an insight about the charm of the city. How the people lived, the markets, the heritage. We even visited the Central Sikh Musuem located in the Golden Temple, which exhibits paintings of Sikh gurus, saints, Sikh warriors and other prominent Sikh leaders who have contributed to the enhancement of Sikh religion.
Next we had lunch at one of the oldest dhabas of Amritsar, Kesar Da Dhaba. The paranthas and dal fry tasted out of the world! In the evening, we visited the Gobindgarh Fort and explored their show called “Kanda Boldiyan Ne” or Whispering Walls, which is a show using state of the art projection mapping technologies and laser lights. I bet I have never seen such a show depicting the history of Amritsar and Gobindgarh Fort in my life, and it surely took my breath away. This show is a must watch for all those who visit the Fort. It is held in Punjabi at 07:15 p.m. and English at 07:55 p.m. I am surely coming back to the Gobindgarh Fort in the morning next time I visit Amritsar to explore their museum, which shuts down at 4 p.m.
We also shopped our hearts out in the markets of Amritsar, which is famous for its Phulkari Dupattas, Patiala Salwars and Juttis. Chudas and Chaandbalis also make a very pretty sight in their markets. Remember to bargain!
It was time to bid goodbye to Amritsar next morning at the crack of the dawn. We took a train to Delhi and hopped on to a flight that took us to Kolkata the same evening.
Honestly, I still cannot get over the sight of the hills, the nip in the air and the serene Golden Temple. My heart still yearns for the peaceful environment of the temple, with the chants of “Wahe Guru”. Until next time, when I shall be exploring more of Amritsar, here’s me signing off! Hope you all enjoyed my travelogue.
