Home Shanti Home | Real Home Decor Inspiration Series | Post One | TicTalkToe

It makes me extremely happy to introduce Home Shanti Home “Real Home Decor Inspiration Series“, where I shall be featuring home decor ideas from people who have actually taken out the time and effort to plan so. Let me thank Tahiti Sengupta Dutta for her inputs and pictures, without which, this post would not have been possible. Tahiti has carved out her own niche admist the high-rise buildings in Pune. So without any further delay, let us hear it directly from her.

Me: Tahiti, tell us something about your journey into home decor for your little nest.

Tahiti: “Home Decor is something which was way out of my mind always because from the very beginning of my career, when I started living away from my family, I have stayed in rented houses. Everytime I felt like doing something, one thing that always stopped me was that I might have to leave this place in a few months, hence, why make an effort. Also I hardly stayed at home, since I have a 9 to 9 job, and weekends were all about hanging out with friends. Staying at home was something which I never thought about for a long period.

Me: This is a very common reason Tahiti. Rented places have certain restrictions as well as limitations. Your thought is quite relatable, though I myself have never lived in rented places for the last 22 years or so. How did you then change your thought process?

Tahiti: “Pandemic brought about a huge change in my thought process. I started looking at the other side of the grass, wherein our little rented abode too needed some attention. That was when it struck me that I too should pay attention to these areas.

Me: That’s quite interesting! What followed next?

Tahiti: “Slowly me and my husband started changing our interior and decoration, even though at the back of our mind we always considered that it is a rented space. But since we stay here, better we tune it to our likings. We started off with the balcony first. This has to be my favourite space. During this pandemic, we were spending most of our times in our balcony for fresh air and we finally did an entire makeover. It now serves as a mini garden with decoration. So much so, that we do not feel like going out for a party anymore.
Tahiti: “I got a grass carpet and plants from a local nursery shop. I also got myself a box to keep all our gardening stuff and some amazing stickers and lights from Amazon to give it that magical effect. A small breakfast/laptop table, floor seating and…..welcome to my party place.”
Me: This looks wonderful. What about the other corners of your abode?
Tahiti: “We then focused on our living room which has a sofa-centre table. We incorporated indoor plants which changed the entire look of the room. We changed our sofa covers instead of spending on an entirely new sofa. Trust me, a mere change of furnishing will change the entire decor game. We even got some photo frames done all around the walls to remind us of our pleasant travel memories. Lastly, we got ourselves a new centre table, and decorated some corners. A rug beneath the centre table. We got everything from either amazon or flipkart, because none of the other websites were delivering to our Pin Code during pandemic.”
For our bedroom, we got a new side table and some plants. Curtains and bed side lamps were already in place. There was not much change in our bedroom since it was fully functional. However, the guest bedroom underwent some changes. We tried giving it a Kolkata feel by adding stickers (again from Amazon), cushion covers, bed covers and paintings by me. We tried keeping the entire guest bedroom in line with a Kolkata theme, so that our guests would not miss Kolkata on their visit to Pune.
Me: Of all the cozy corners, which one would be your absolute favourite?
Tahiti: “Well, this is surely a difficult one, since I love each and every part of my home. However, if I had to choose one, it would definitely be the living area where I spend most of my time working from home. I have beautifully added fairy lights and a dream catcher to the area. It looks magical at night. The long curtains, wall sticker, floor bed furnishing, everything just adds up to the decor.”
Me: This surely makes a magical sight Tahiti. So glad you shared a sneak peek of your beautifully done abode. How about parting off with a small message for the readers of Tic Talk Toe?
Tahiti: “It was my absolute pleasure Sanandita. I do have a small message for all your blog readers. This pandemic gave me several realisations. I realised that I had not picked up my painting brush for a decade! I also realised that local sellers need our support, hence my dream catcher, rugs, coasters are all hand made and sourced from local sellers. The house needs me, as much as I need it. Parting on a positive note, I would emphasize that this pandemic has given a chance to pause and invest some time at home. As a result, my home is now the party place for all my friends, and we love hosting everyone in our small humble nest”.
Thank you so much Tahiti once again for the inputs and photographs. If you would like to feature your abode on our Home Shanti Home | Real Home Decor Inspiration Series, do drop in an email at sanandita@gmail.com

Urvashi has a recipe for a 15 minute LCHF Pizza. Not sure about what LCHF is? Head over to her blog for the recipe.
Sindhu has a post on Facial at Home – Indrani facial kit. With pandemic and zero parlour visits, I think this will be of great help.
